Toys for tots

The Salvation Army has opened its toy box to Manitoba children affected by the 2011 floods.

Over 250 children of all ages have been evacuated throughout the province since the flooding began earlier this month. In most cases, when they left their homes, they were only have to pack a bag of their most important belongings, often forced to leave beloved toys behind.

So, on Friday, members of Winnipeg’s Salvation Army arrived at the hotels and evacuation centres where these displaced children are staying, bringing with them a truck filled with donated toys.

“Whether it’s a fire or a flood or whatever the case may be, it’s great to have access to toys right away so we can give out to people and meet needs just like today and give hope to some of these kids who are right now probably feeling that they’re missing home and want to get back to their houses,” said Captain Les Marshall of the Salvation Army.
