A heavy duty, low pressure system is hitting the south coast of B.C. tonight and some areas will see heavy rain, while others will get snow.
Global BC meteorologist Kristi Gordon says this storm system will be funneling a lot of moisture over the south coast, starting tonight and continuing into the morning hours.
“All areas of the south coast are going to get hit this evening and overnight,” said Gordon.
The Lower Mainland will get between 20 to 40 mm of rain in about 12 hours. While this isn’t record breaking, this is the first big storm that has hit B.C. in about a month.

The North Shore will get up to 60 mm of rain and this means the North Shore Mountains will get snow.
Gordon said there is a snowfall warning in place for Whistler. The village is expected to receive between 10 and 20 cm of snow with more falling on the surrounding mountains.

The big concern will be the snowy conditions on the roads.
Any highway north of Squamish will get lots of snow starting this evening and lasting until tomorrow morning.
Anywhere east of Hope will also get a lot of snow, making the roads slippery and the driving conditions treacherous. Gordon said the Coquihalla Highway could see up to 35 cm by Wednesday morning, and Allison Pass could get up to 20 cm.
Along with the rain and snow, the south coast will also be battered by some very strong winds.
