SUMMERLAND, B.C. — Roy Bain, 89, is overwhelmed by the support he’s been offered from Okanagan residents.
The senior, living with cerebral palsy, has been paying to receive home care services from Interior Health for nearly a decade, but that service suddenly stopped last week.
He needs care twice a day to transfer him from his bed to the scooter and back onto the bed before he sleeps.

IHA managers say Bain’s home is unsafe for care workers, insisting he needs a proper hospital bed and cut the service immediately.
After Global Okanagan aired his story, multiple area residents stepped up to help.
“It feels great. I’ve got a half a dozen calls from who wanted to help. There were people who were willing to do it for free,” said Bain.
“A lady even called me from Kelowna, but I told her that’s too far a drive, especially in the winter time.”
He’s now hired a woman he knows from Summerland to help him.
