TORONTO – Federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty said Friday he hopes his friend Toronto Mayor Rob Ford “gets back on track.”
“I think he’s been a good mayor and I think he’s tried to get the financial house in order in Toronto which hasn’t been done in a long time,” Flaherty said. “So I give him credit for that and I hope he gets back on track.”

Flaherty made the comments while getting a pair of new shoes ahead of next week’s federal budget, after he was asked how he feels about the ongoing scandals surrounding Ford.
“Well, it’s hard to keep up isn’t it? You know I wish Rob well and his family well and I know them all well,” he said. “I’m not up to date on what’s been happening other than what I see on television and in the news.”

Flaherty choked back tears when asked a similar question in November a few days after Chief Bill Blair revealed the infamous crack video existed and the mayor admitted to smoking crack.
