TORONTO – After publicly calling out Justin Bieber once again on Twitter, Canadian electronic producer Deadmau5 seems to be finally tiring of discussing the troubled teen pop star.
Mostly.
“Bieber! Yes, yes, yes, let’s talk about Bieber. Nobody talks about Bieber,” he said sarcastically when asked about the rapidly unravelling 19-year-old pop superstar at a press conference Tuesday where Juno Award nominations were announced.
“We should really give this kid some credit.”
Fatigued though he apparently was by the topic, the 33-year-old — whose real name is Joel Zimmerman — still couldn’t help himself from commenting further.
Bieber was recently arrested on charges of driving under the influence, resisting arrest and driving with an invalid licence after what Miami Beach police said was a drag race. It’s one of a few recent scandals that have prompted an online petition for the United States to deport the “Boyfriend” singer.
At the time, Deadmau5 was scathing (again) in his criticism of the Stratford, Ont. native, whom he called an “idiot.”

Zimmerman recently tricked out his Ferrari 458 Italia with a colourful wrap inspired by the “Nyan Cat” Internet meme — “how the (hell) does everybody know about this so quickly?” he vented when asked about it — and he linked the two topics when queried about his fellow Juno nominee Tuesday.
Aside from redecorating his ride, Deadmau5 has been busy recording a two-disc album that he says will come out “March-ish” and feature “a lot of new stuff.”
He was speaking minutes after being nominated for electronic album of the year at the Juno Awards and navigating a row of press, though he was concise when discussing the latest honour — his 11th career nomination after four wins.
Still, the reliably ironic dance songwriter was circumspect when pressed.
“I appreciate it. I really do.”
