UBC Okanagan students kicked off their shoes for a good cause Tuesday.
“One Day Without Shoes” is an awareness campaign around North America to help collect shoes for those in other counties without footwear.
The event is hosted by TOMS Shoes to help make change to the lives of less fortunate people.
Event organizers say that most children in developing countries grow up barefoot and have to walk without shoes to attend school or go to work. Others are denied education because they have no shoes.
They say in Ethiopia, approximately 1 million people are suffering from a debilitating disease called podoconiosis, which is preventable with basic hygiene and shoes.
The UBC Okanagan students walked barefoot around campus in the chilly April weather Tuesday to support the cause.
