WATCH: Stars react to the death of Philip Seymour Hoffman
VANCOUVER — Hollywood actors and members of the entertainment community are paying tribute to Philip Seymour Hoffman, who died Sunday at a New York apartment at the age of 46.
The Oscar-winning actor was remembered as one of the best in the business by many of his co-stars, friends and colleagues.
Hoffman starred in 63 films and was filming The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 when he was found dead of an apparent drug overdose, according to reports.
“Words cannot convey the devastating loss we are all feeling right now,” read a statement from the team working on The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and Part 2. “Philip was a wonderful person and an exceptional talent, and our hearts are breaking.”
Director Anton Corbijn, who was with Hoffman at the Sundance Film Festival last month said in a statement: “He was not only the most gifted actor I ever worked with (and judging by the legacy he leaves behind I am certain I share this with most if not all directors who were fortunate enough to work with him), he had also become an incredibly inspiring and supportive friend. I am so terribly sad as I find it impossible to comprehend what happened today and to collect my thoughts properly. I have to think about Mimi and the children and I wish them much strength coping with the loss of this truly great man as a father and partner.”
On Facebook, actor Jeff Bridges said: “I’m so shocked, and so sad hearing of Philip Seymour Hoffman’s death. I enjoyed playing with him on the Big Lebowski. He was such a wonderful guy, and so damn talented, a real treasure. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.”
