Balzac Billy has emerged from his den with some good news for Albertans.
The prognosticating groundhog did not see his shadow upon awaking from his slumber, which means Albertans can expect an early spring.
Organizers say Balzac Billy is about 70 per cent accurate.

Nova Scotia’s Shubenacadie Sam also predicted an early spring. But, Ontario’s Wiarton Willy wasn’t quite so optimistic.
He spotted his shadow immediately after emerging from his den— forecasting another six weeks of what has already been a long, cold and snowy winter.

Regardless of what the furry forecasters say, Environment Canada is predicting the freezing temperatures that have gripped much of the country over the past two months will likely stick around throughout the month of February.
