A water main broke outside the front entrance this afternoon.
Reports on social media began to surface around 3 p.m. Wednesday.
As of 4:30 p.m., UBC says the water pipe on Marine Drive was shut off and water has been cleared from the front lobby. There was no visible damage to the collection, but a full assessment is underway.
The museum was scheduled to be open until 5 p.m. today.
The building opened in 1976 and was designed by renowned Canadian architect Arthur Erickson. In 2010, the museum completed a $55 million renovation.
