Police in Hamilton, Ont. say they are investigating a stabbing at a mosque in the city’s downtown core on Friday afternoon that has left three people injured.
Police say officers were dispatched to the Downtown Hamilton Mosque at around 2:13 p.m. after receiving reports that several people had been stabbed after a fight at that location.
Police believe that the fight started outside of the mosque before it moved inside the building.
One victim was transported to hospital by paramedics for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries while another person was also treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Police initially reported that two people had been injured as a result of the incident but then said a third person had arrived at an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
They are searching for two suspects who fled the mosque in an unknown direction and say there are conflicting reports over whether or not they left in separate vehicles.
While they are in the early stages of their investigation, police do not believe the incident to be hate-motivated and believe those involved are known to each other.
