SASKATOON – A judge has found George Allgood guilty of first-degree murder in shooting death of his ex-girlfriend, Susan Rienhardt.

The verdict was handed down Monday morning at Court of Queen’s Bench in Saskatoon.

Allgood was also found guilty of the attempted murder of Rienhardt’s boyfriend, David Ristow.

There were a number of outbursts from Allgood as Justice Grant Currie delivered the verdicts.

“I didn’t do it,” Allgood stated. “You didn’t get the facts right.”

Before that outburst, Allgood objected when Currie said he didn’t believe Allgood’s alibi for the night in question.

“I was there at the time, I was there at 10 o’clock,” Allgood shouted at the judge. “You’re not getting the facts right, I was there.”

Allgood then asked to leave the court moments after Currie warned him he would be removed if he continued his outbursts.

“I don’t think it’s wise I stay, I might say something I regret,” stated Allgood.

Rienhardt was killed after shots were fired through a sliding door while she was sleeping in her City Park home in July 2006 with Ristow, who survived the shooting.

A key point in the case was the so-called ‘Mr. Big’ sting operation. Allgood was invited into a fake crime organization and confessed in detail to a fake crime boss that he shot Rienhardt.

Much of the Crown’s case rested heavily on the sting.

“The judge found very clearly that he was telling the truth, he wasn’t improperly influenced in any way, it was a truthful admission to a horrendous killing,” said Crown Prosecutor Robin Ritter.

Throughout the trial the defense lawyer Morris Bodner argued Allgood made up the confession because he was intimidated by the crime boss and he feared for his life.

Justice Currie said he didn’t believe any of Allgood’s evidence.

“Mr Allgood has lead a life based on a lie. Many years ago he stole the birth certificate of a person named Reno Trevor Hogg,” said Currie.

“He is accustomed to lying when it suits his interests.”

Allgood had words for the officer as he was led out of the courtroom the first time. “You know you are a liar, falsified information like that,” said Allgood.

Outside of court, Ritter said Allgood’s outbursts were “fairly consistent with his behaviour in life and throughout the matter.”

“I would characterize what he did in shooting Susan Reinhardt and David Ristow as a very cowardly act; to sneak through the night and shoot two people laying in their bed in the dark as a cowardly act; and I think his behavior in court in not being able to remain in court to hear the judges’ decision and his verdict is also a cowardly act.”

Allgood will be sentenced this Friday. A first-degree guilty verdict carries a mandatory life sentence with no chance of parole for 25 years.
