SASKATOON – Over this past holiday season, charitable donations to food banks throughout Saskatchewan totalled over $1 million.

As Saskatchewanians stepped up, PotashCorp was dedicated to matching donations and presented another million at the Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre on Friday.

“We’re thrilled to announce that this has been our most successful food bank campaign to date, far exceeding our expectations,” said Laurie O’Connor, Saskatoon Food Bank executive director.

PotashCorp’s third matching gift campaign was launched last November and ran until Wednesday.

“The food banks align so well with our mission really to help feed the world,” said Lee Knafelc, PotashCorp human resources & administration vice-president.

“Food security has to begin at home and really the food banks are a great local initiative.”

Since 2010, Saskatchewan food bank campaigns combined with PotashCorp’s matching support have raised over $9.4 million.

The money helps the province’s 35 food banks support vulnerable residents with programs and nourishment.
