CALGARY – A family has been forced from their Deer Ridge home after a fire broke out in their attic.

Firefighters were called to Deer Ridge Drive S.E. around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

When they arrived, they found a smouldering fire in the attic of a house.

Crews had to pull down much of the ceiling to make sure the fire didn’t spread.

Although firefighters were able to keep the blaze contained to the attic, they say it will be some time before the family can return home as the damage to the house is extensive.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
