The Ontario Provincial Police say they are searching for multiple suspects after a vehicle was struck from behind on Highway 410 and the man inside was robbed.
Police said the incident happened just after 8 p.m. Tuesday on the highway, in the northbound lanes just north of Sandalwood Drive.
The victim’s vehicle was rear-ended by a red car and when the man pulled over to the shoulder to check the damage and exchange information with the driver when he was robbed by two to three masked and armed suspects, police said.
Investigators allege one suspect pulled out a handgun and another had a knife. Items from the vehicle were taken and the man suffered minor injuries during the robbery, police said.
The suspects got back into their vehicle and fled the area. The victim made his way off the highway and contacted police from a nearby business, the force said.
“This is a unique situation,” OPP Sgt. Ted Dongelmans told Global News. “The driver did what everyone would do, pulled over to the side of the highway and stopped their vehicle because they’ve been in a minor collision … In this case, obviously, things went differently.”
Police are asking if anyone saw the incident or has any information including dashcam footage to contact police.
