CALGARY- A country singer’s Kijiji ad offering to give his house away for free is generating a lot of interest on social media and among Calgarians looking for a deal.
Jason Hastie posted the ad on Sunday, offering to donate his home to a person or family in need.
There’s one hitch though—they would have to cover the cost of moving the house off Hastie’s Killarney property.
Pat McCann, of McCann Building Movers, says that cost could run into the tens of thousands of dollars.
“There is a price involved: new basement, $20,000, house moving, $25,000 and you have to have land or property,” says McCann.
He says expenses could run as high as $75,000 once services such as heating are connected.

“I still think that’s a good deal,” he adds.
Calgarian Carla Edwards thinks so too.
“They wanted to give it to a family in need—I don’t know what their criteria is but I am hoping I might be counted as someone in need.”
The three-bedroom house was built in 1952. Hastie and his wife plan to build another home on the site, so they need the bungalow moved off the property by the end of February.
Hastie is offering $1,000 towards the cost of moving it.
