Calgary country singer offers to donate his house to family in need

CALGARY- Anyone want a free house?

That’s what a country singer is offering up, as he gets set for a major renovation on his Killarney property.

On Sunday, Jason Hastie posted an ad on Kijiji offering to give away his house to a person or family in need. He and his wife plan to build another home on the site, so they need the bungalow moved off the property by the end of February.

“This house has been my home for the past 10 years and I have done many renovations to it,” he says in the ad. “The last thing I want to see is for this to be torn down. It is an awesome house and would make a great home for anyone in need.”

Whoever is picked will be responsible for the cost of moving the three-bedroom house, which was built in 1952. Hastie is offering $1,000 towards the cost.

“Even if you don’t need a house, but know someone in need (perhaps someone who has lost their house in the floods this past summer), please contact us as well.”

The 1,200 square foot home features original hardwood, a recently renovated kitchen, skylight and is wired for a security system. Hastie adds that they are also giving away the log garage, which he suggests could be made into a cabin.

The ad has already been viewed more than 85-thousand times.
