Appeal decision to be released in Saskatchewan’s largest drug bust

REGINA – Three British Columbia men will learn on Wednesday whether they will be spending more time behind bars for their role in smuggling drugs across the U.S. border into Saskatchewan.

In November 2012, Brock Ernest Palfrey of Vernon, B.C., the ringleader of the group, was sentenced to 18 years for his role in smuggling cocaine and ecstasy pills across the border between Saskatchewan and Montana.

The Crown appealed his sentence, arguing he should spend 25 years in prison and serve half his sentence before being eligible for parole.

William Bruce Larsen of Coldstream, B.C. was given 12 years in prison and the Crown is looking to have that increased to 18 years, while a third person, Troy Swanson, also of Coldstream, was handed 11 years.

The crown is seeking to have his sentence increased to 15 years.

Police from multiple jurisdictions seized 367 kilograms of cocaine and 100,000 ecstasy tablets in November 2011 worth over $17 million.

The decision from the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal will be released Wednesday morning.
