Halifax Transit temporarily pulls dozens of buses from road after one loses tire

Halifax Transit had to temporarily pull some buses off the road Thursday, after a wheel came off a vehicle while it was in service.

“The investigation of the incident found that this was due to faulty equipment used to torque the wheels,” a release sent Thursday evening noted.

There were 43 other buses and Access-A-Bus vehicles — on multiple routes — that could be impacted and were taken out of service immediately.

Mechanics were dispatched, according to Halifax Transit, to re-torque the wheels on-site. The work was expected to take several hours.

Just before 7:30 p.m., Halifax Transit said all potentially impacted buses had been cleared to resume service.

“Staff would like to thank residents and Operators for their patience while this potential safety issue was addressed.”
