Penticton tourism dispute continues

None of the room tax money collected for marketing purposes has been spent since October 31.

PENTICTON — A dispute over who will market the City of Penticton continues and it’s the local tourism industry that could be paying the price.

At issue is who controls the money collected from a two percent hotel room tax.

After months of public arguments and even threats of legal action — the city and the Penticton Hospitality Association appeared to reconcile their differences.

They reached an agreement in principle in mid-December and the two groups were supposed to meet yesterday, but according to the city,  the Hospitality Association decided to withdraw from discussions.
