TORONTO — Ricky Martin is livin’ la vida solo.
The pop star confirmed Thursday he celebrated his 42nd birthday on Christmas Eve as a single man, after splitting from longtime partner Carlos Gonzalez Abella.
In a statement, a rep for Martin said the two men “continue to be united by friendship and their shared experiences.”
Martin and Abella had been together for about four years.

The Latin singer hinted at the break-up in a Dec. 27 tweet.
“Changes oh changes,” he posted.
Martin, who welcomed sons Matteo and Valentino via surrogate in 2008, told Vanity Fair in 2012 that he experienced “wonderful things” with Abella.
“Complexity, understanding, and, at the same time, freedom, not being afraid that your partner is judging you,” he said. “That is what I have found with Carlos.”
Martin also said he and Abella, a stockbroker, complemented each other well. “He leaves the house every day in a suit and tie and that is so sexy. It’s two different worlds — his and mine.”
The singer, who became a Spanish citizen two years ago, recently told Agencia EFE he hoped to get married in Spain.
