Fire rips through Spruce Grove townhome complex

Some Spruce Grove residents were forced from their homes after a fire tore through a multi-unit condo building Wednesday night.

The blaze started just before 7:30 p.m. at a townhome complex on Longview Drive.

A spokesperson for the city said when Spruce Grove Fire Services arrived, one of the 10 buildings in the complex was on fire.

Three of the six suites in the building were damaged in the fire, they said. None of the other buildings in the complex were impacted, the spokesperson said.

The fire also appears to have melted the siding of nearby units.

The Stony Plain Fire Department also responded and provided support, the city spokesperson said.

An investigation is underway, but there is nothing suspicious at this time.

It is believed the fire started in the garage of the building.
