Officers said the incident occurred shortly before 5 a.m. on May 25.

Police said evidence of gunfire was found at the school located at Dufferin Street and Finch Avenue West.

Preliminary findings indicate the suspects got out of a dark-coloured vehicle and opened fire on the school, causing damage to part of the building.

There were no reported injuries.

Police said they would remain on scene while the investigation ensues and ask anyone with information to come forward.

Insp. Paul Krawczyk of the Guns and Gangs Task Force said while the police are “not going to ignore the obvious,” this is not being investigated as a hate crime at this time.

“I completely understand that this can cause concern, fear and anxiety in the community, especially when it happens at a school like this,” Krawczyk said, “especially with the students, the parents and the staff.”

“I want the community to know that the Toronto police are going to ensure that community safety is of utmost importance… the community will also see officers at other schools, high visibility at synagogues, to ensure that the public understands that community safety is number one for us.”

No suspect information has been released at this time.
