The Ontario Provincial Police say the portion of Highway 400 in Toronto that was closed has now reopened after a deadly crash early Thursday.
The highway reopened around 11:30 a.m., OPP said.
Police said the collision, involving three vehicles, happened on the southbound lanes of Highway 400 near Highway 401 split to go east or west at around 5 a.m.
The southbound lanes are closed between Finch Avenue and the 401, police said.
Paramedics told Global News one person was pronounced dead at the scene. No other patients were treated.
Police allege a BMW heading southbound on the highway was travelling at a high rate of speed when it struck a box truck from behind.
One of the people in the BMW died but three others took off on foot, police allege. There is no description for those who fled.
Another vehicle, a car, was also involved in the crash but no other injuries were reported, police said.
The cause of the collision is under investigation.
