MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – The deadline for the federal government’s economic stimulus plan is being pushed back by a construction season.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper, speaking in Mississauga, Ont., says the move will allow for the completion of a small number of projects.

The new deadline is Oct. 31, 2011 – instead of the end of March.

Harper says that will allow enough time to finish the remaining projects, adding he doesn’t expect the extension will cost the federal government any more money.

However, the work must have started and incurred eligible costs before March 31.

Earlier today, Parliament’s budget watchdog said over $300 million might not be spent on infrastructure stimulus as planned unless the government quickly clarified its spending rules.
