RCMP say a 28-year-old man is believed to be responsible for shots being fired in a Gimli, Man home on Thursday afternoon.
Sgt. Paul Manaigre said it not believed anyone was hurt in the shooting. The whereabouts of the suspect are currently unknown, but it is not believed there is a risk to any other persons “right now.”
Initially, RCMP said officers believed the suspect left Gimli and may have been travelling towards Arborg. Manaigre said this is no longer that case, and is incorrect information.
It is not assumed he is in Gimli. “We’re looking for any kind of information that could help lead us to him,” he said.
“We’re getting a lot of rumors spread on social media. I want to reiterate that we believe it was an isolated incident,” he said. “The lockdowns have been lifted at the schools, (and) it’s just a matter now of RCMP officers tracking down the suspect and making the arrest.”
He said, “hopefully we’ll have that done tonight, if not, we’ll have further updates tomorrow.”
He said “the person that discharged the firearm and the complainant were known to each other.”
Manaigre confirmed two schools were placed in lockdown earlier on Thursday out of “an abundance of caution. We wanted to keep everybody safe.”
The situation is still unfolding he said, and encouraged residents to be vigilant, take precautions, and call in anything suspicious.
“Hopefully we’ll have a resolution to this shortly,” he said.
