Foreign student killed, 1 injured after crash in Caledon

A foreign student has died, and another person was taken to hospital with minor injuries after a crash in Caledon on Wednesday morning.

Police said the crash between two vehicles happened on Mayfield Road near the Caledon-Brampton border just before 7:30 a.m.

The collision involved an Accura and a Jeep, which ended on its roof, Global News learned. The driver of the Jeep was pronounced dead at the scene.

A family member identified the deceased as Dilpreet Sidhu, a 22-year-old student from India.

The relative told Global News he was likely on his way to Toronto for an exam.

This is the second fatal collision to occur near the Caledon-Brampton border this week.

On Tuesday morning, a fatal collision occurred on Heart Shaped Road involving an SUV and a school bus. Two people died and three others remain in hospital because of the crash.

Cst. Joe Brisebois says on Caledon OPP patrolled roads so far this year there’s been 15 fatal collisions, including 19 dead.

“A message we have for drivers: slow down, stay in control, pay attention, wear your seatbelt and never drive impaired.”
