Edmonton woman killed in fatal collision on Highway 28 near Vilna

A woman from Edmonton was killed in a crash northeast of the city over the weekend.

The three-vehicle crash happened around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 25, on Highway 28 between Range roads 141 and 142 near Vilna.

Smokey Lake RCMP said a 46-year-old woman from Edmonton, who was one of the drivers, was dead when emergency crews arrived.

A driver of another vehicle was rescued and transported to Edmonton by STARS Air Ambulance with serious, possibly critical injuries. The third driver involved went to hospital with minor inquires.

RCMP said officers continue the investigate the circumstances of the collision. Although early, police said drugs are believed to be a factor.

The highway was closed overnight while police investigated.
