Toronto Pearson Airport says it is starting to resume screening and normal operations with heightened security on Thursday morning after arriving passengers were allowed to flow through the wrong door.

The airport said the disruption was caused after a ground handler contracted by an airline directed domestic passengers to an area for screened U.S.-bound transborder passengers in Terminal 1.

As of around 10:30 a.m., the airport said the U.S. Customs and Border Protection had restarted its pre-clearance process and that flights were resuming.

According to Toronto Pearson Airport’s website earlier, several flights scheduled for the morning were delayed following the incident.

A passenger emailed Global News that she has been stuck in the security line for more than 45 minutes at Terminal 1 connecting to the U.S.

Global News learned the flight was from Lynx Air which said in a statement that it works “with a separate ground services operator that is accountable for gate services once our aircraft lands.”

“We are actively in contact with both the GTAA and the ground handling company to investigate what has happened and how this situation could have occurred,” the airline said.

Airport operations in Terminal 1 domestic and international flights as well as in Terminal 3 gates were not affected, the airport said.
