One man is in critical condition after being struck by a CTrain Wednesday night near the Chinook LRT Station.

According to a Calgary Police Service spokesperson, the incident happened at around 6:40 p.m. near the intersection of 61st Avenue and 1A Street Southwest.

The victim, who had been walking west when he was hit by a southbound train, was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition.

According to police, the train’s warning signals and the crossing’s barrier arms were operational.

Calgary Transit shuttle buses ferried passengers between the 39th Avenue and Heritage stations while a section of the Red Line was temporarily closed to trains.

Impairment has been ruled out as a suspected factor in the collision.
