A Calgary father who struggled for years to get his daughter into Canada, has finally been granted his wish.
Amsalu Wubante moved to Canada from a Kenyan refugee camp in 1997, but didn’t learn until five years ago that he had a daughter in Ethiopia, the offspring of a brief relationship.
“I cannot go back. She cannot come here, so what can I do?”, says Wubante. “I have to do something, just keep fighting. If you give up, you are going to fail.”
After years of filing legal paperwork and communicating via Skype and Facebook, Wubante was reunited with his daughter Elini, now 20-years-old, at the Calgary International Airport.
“This is incredible,”, Wubante says. “I am very happy.”
