SASKATOON – A request for qualified artists and designers has been issued for the installation of a Saskatoon monument project commemorating the bicentennial of the War of 1812.
Whitecap Dakota First Nation and the City of Saskatoon are seeking an artist and/or design team to create and install a collection of works, including a commemorative monument and interpretive panels.
The projects’ objectives includes interpreting the significance of the bicentennial and to commemorate the “Spirit of Alliance” of the Dakota First Nation and other ethnicities who came together to secure the formation of Canada as a country.
The project will commemorate those who participated in the War of 1812 and their descendants who now reside in the Prairie provinces.
The monument will be located at the roundabout at Avenue A and Spadina Crescent by the Farmer’s Market.
Artist are meant to explore the heritage themes by adding a layer of meaning that will enhance River Landing while maintaining the integrity of the existing design features of the riverbank.

The deadline for RFQ submissions is Sept. 25 at 3 p.m.
A total budget of $330,000 will be awarded to the winning proposal on Oct. 23 and the monument is expected to be unveiled next fall.
