New trailer released for made-in-Canada ‘Carrie’ remake

Chloe Grace Moretz stars as Carrie in the remake that opens Oct. 18. Handout

TORONTO — Chloe Grace Moretz is spooky and Julianne Moore is creepy in the new trailer for Carrie.

Moretz plays the titular telekinetic teen in the remake of the 1976 Sissy Spacek film and Moore takes over the role originated by Piper Laurie.

The reboot, which was shot in Toronto last year, also stars Judy Greer and Ansel Elgort.

Based on the Stephen King novel, Carrie is about a girl with special powers who is shunned by her classmates and abused by her mother. When she falls victim to a bloody prank at the prom, Carrie exacts revenge on the school.

Toronto’s Northern Secondary School on Mt. Pleasant Road shows up in the trailer for the movie.

Carrie was originally scheduled to open on March 15 but was bumped to Oct. 18 to appeal to audiences looking for a pre-Halloween scare.
