Peter MacKay says he has asked to be briefed on two high-profile cases in Nova Scotia as he gets up to speed in his new job as federal justice minister.
MacKay says the first file he asked to be briefed on was the Ernest Fenwick MacIntosh case.
The Supreme Court of Canada recently upheld a lower court ruling, quashing all 17 sex offence convictions against the former Port Hawkesbury area businessman.
MacKay says it’s too early to say if there will be a federal public inquiry, however.
Former justice minister Rob Nicholson has dismissed the need for an inquiry, saying it would be an expensive and lengthy process that would only give answers to what is already known.
MacKay says he’s also been briefed on cyberbullying, an issue that came to the forefront in Nova Scotia with the Rehteah Parsons case.
