An RCMP vehicle. File / Global News

Police say despite the best efforts of first responders and medical staff, the three-year-old boy found unresponsive in a backyard pool in Cowichan Bay on June 30 has died in hospital.

North Cowichan and Duncan RCMP say that they were called to home in Cowichan Bay on Sunday morning after the boy was found unresponsive in a pool.

The child was flown to hospital in critical condition.

Police say the boy’s parents were home at the time and are calling the incident “a tragic accident.”

They say there are no indications of criminal behaviour.

Police are reminding people to be extra cautious on the water during these hot summer days.
