B.C. search-and-rescue personnel head to Alberta

VANCOUVER – Another 20 members of Vancouver’s Heavy Urban Search and Rescue Team have been sent to Alberta to assist in the response to flooding in that province.

They will join 36 members of the Vancouver team that are already on the ground helping’s Calgary’s Heavy Urban Search and Rescue Team.

A news release from the City of Vancouver says the team travelled to Calgary on Sunday morning and will help conduct humanitarian work and pumping operations.

The team is comprised of police officers, firefighters, staff from the city’s engineering department, paramedics and park board officials.

Flooding forced more than 100,000 people from their homes and caused widespread damage in Calgary and nearby communities such as High River, where many residents are still being kept from their homes.
