SASKATOON – It is going to be a soggy couple of days in Saskatoon and surrounding areas.

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for the region, with 50-80 mm of rain expected by Saturday.

Rain has already forced some closures and postponements in Saskatoon.

The agency says a stationary low pressure system is expected to develop over the central part of the province today.

Rain is expected to start this morning with the heaviest precipitation falling just west of the system, affecting Saskatoon, Prince Albert and areas in-between.

The warning has now been expanded to include the Melfort, Tisdale, Nipawin and Carrot River areas.

Gusty westerly winds will bring cooler air into the warned area later today, making for a miserable couple of days.

Rain is expected to taper off Sunday morning, although a few showers will likely linger into the afternoon.

Areas north of Prince Albert, including La Ronge and Meadow Lake, are expected to receive up to 50 mm of rainfall by Saturday.

A warning for the Île à la Crosse, Buffalo Narrows and Beauval regions has ended.
