A new trial date has been set for a former B.C. MLA’s son who was accused of importing drugs after border guards found fentanyl in a parcel addressed to a Calgary address.
Kasimir Tyabji-Sandana of Calgary was arrested in July 2015 — not long after Canadian Border Services Agency officers in Vancouver intercepted the package from China.
A five-day trial, that had been scheduled to begin today, is to begin next April.
Tyabji-Sandana, who is 29, remains out on bail.
His mother, Judi Tyabji, was the youngest member on record in the B.C. legislature when she was first elected in 1991 at age 26.
Her subsequent affair with then-leader Gordon Wilson rocked the B.C. Liberal party in 1993.
They went on to marry and formed the Progressive Democratic Alliance, which folded after the 1996 election.
