The Nova Scotia Community College’s (NSCC) waterfront campus has a new name.

The campus will be referred to as Ivany Campus, in honour of former NSCC president, Raymond E. Ivany, who served as president and CEO from 1998 to 2005.

“I’ll be honest with you this is just an incredible honour for me,” said Ivany at the announcement on Tuesday.

“It took a lot of people… to make something truly incredible happen for Nova Scotia.”

According to Don Bureaux, the current NSCC president, Ivany positioned NSCC to be at the forefront of post-secondary options in the province.

“His tireless work in promoting the vision of a strong, community college system that would strengthen economic and social prosperity won the support of the provincial government in the form of a landmark, $123-million investment,” said Bureaux on Tuesday.

The investment helped NSCC add space for an additional 2,500 students at its campuses across the province, including the campus that will now be named after Ivany.

“The legacy of Ray Ivany’s vision is contained within these walls and extends to each student that passes through the campus and leaves with a heightened sense of purpose and self-worth,” said Akash Pandey, the Campus Student Association president.

Ivany has long been associated with post-secondary education in Nova Scotia.

After his term as NSCC President, he served as President of Acadia University from 2009 to June this year, when he retired.
