Major access road in North Vancouver closed due to landslide risk

An access road to a popular North Vancouver park has been closed because of the possibility of a landslide.

The 700-metre Lynn Headwaters Access Road, which serves as the access road to Lynn Headwaters Regional Park, is temporarily inaccessible in the interest of public safety.

The District of North Vancouver has closed the road to vehicles, effective immediately. Hikers and cyclists can still access the road, however.

The district says the road, which cuts through steeply sloped terrain, has deteriorated and is at risk of a landslide.

There are no homes located below the section of road that is most at risk.

The district says regular maintenance is no longer enough to keep the road safe and major mitigation work will be necessary to stabilize the slope below the road.

Meanwhile, the district is implementing temporary, time-limited (two hour) parking on a few local streets near the access road for people using the park while it’s closed.
