It’s been a very difficult summer for homeowners and merchants living near Gouin Boulevard between Le Boulevard and 3 Avenue in the Pierrefonds-Roxboro borough.
Part of the street has been dug up for major infrastructure work but completing the job won’t happen until next spring. The original finish date was Oct. 15.
Several small businesses lining the three-block stretch of road have suffered badly.
Sales at the fruit and vegetable market La Ferme Québecoise have dropped more than 50 per cent.
“It’s not easy because we have barely no sales,” Monique Roy-Girard told Global News.
What’s worse, they say, is that 280 metres of road in front of the business will be paved over the fall only to be dug up again next spring.
Pierrefonds-Roxboro Borough Mayor Jim Beis says major dynamiting is required to access the water and sewage pipes that need to be replaced.
“In order for us to do that effectively it has to be done at the beginning of next season,” Beis told Global News.
One homeowner has been forced to drive over her neighbour’s front lawn to access her driveway.
The entrance to Jaqueline Sequeira’s home has been cut off for three months because of the road work on Gouin Boulevard.
“I find that really insane,” Sequeira told Global News.
The work is slated to be complete next spring but no date has been given.
