The Alberta College of Paramedics admitted that they had a data breach of its online database.
A news release sent to Global News Saturday said someone gained access to its servers online, resulting in access to confidential information, including passwords, names, dates of birth, employment and financial records.
Officials from the college think the compromise happened sometime between 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 23 until approximately 11:30 a.m. the next day, when it was corrected. A software update to the NavPortal resulted in the unauthorized access.
It’s not known if any of that information has been stolen, but it appears that, on at least five occasions, information was accessed.
The college issued an update on Monday, saying all security measures were back in place and working within NavPortal databases. The school hired an outside security analyst to find the root cause of the breach. As of Sept. 26, the college had identified every person who accessed the portal since the breach and will be contacting each individual over the next few days.
The college also said it would notify the privacy commissioner Monday.
