WATCH ABOVE: A pair of thunderstorms rolled through Calgary on Friday afternoon, causing events like the Shaw Charity Classic to take precautions – Sep 2, 2016

Shortly after Environment Canada issued some weather watches for areas east of Calgary, the horn was sounded at the Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club where the first round of the Shaw Charity Classic was underway.

Around 2:20 p.m. players and spectators were told to leave the course as a delay in play was issued due to the risk of lightning.

A local meteorologist has been monitoring and assessing the risk.

Play resumed at 5:15 p.m. and organizers expect golfers will be able to finish the round by day’s end.
