On the grounds where the world-renowned Craven Country Jamboree is held every summer, a new festival is working to build its reputation as a must-see event.
The Canadian Truck Fest debuted Aug. 26 – Aug. 28 in Craven, Sask. with a loud display of monster trucks, truck and tractor pulling, a demolition derby and two nights of live music.
Ken Taylor, general manager of the festival, said the idea for an all-encompassing truck festival came when he and his longtime friend, Rob Waloschuk with Performance Promotions, felt the Craven Jamboree grounds could be more than just a venue for country music.
“We said, ‘let’s try this, but let’s make it different,'” Taylor said.
“Let’s make it more than just a monster truck show. More than just a truck and tractor pull show. We wanted to make it a family event with something for everybody.”
The festival’s debut attracted truck-lovers from across western Canada and northern parts of the United States.
Larry Hilworth, owner of LT Motorsports in Yorkton, brought his fleet of eight modified trucks and tractors — including ‘Jet Blue’, a tractor with something special under the hood.
“It’s kind of a crowd-pleaser and kind of a keepsake.”
Taylor already has big plans for the Canadian Truck Fest’s second year, using connection in Ontario to make expansion a very real possibility.
“It looks like in June we’re going to have Canadian Truck Fest in Thunder Bay.”
