An emergency alert was issued Sunday evening at 9:03 p.m. for parts of Yellowhead County.
At 9:31 p.m. the tornado warning was updated to include parts of Yellowhead County near Peers and Niton Junction.
Beth Allan is a storm chaser following the storm cell. She spoke with Global News from Peers, about 40 kilometres from Edson around 9:30 p.m. Sunday evening.
“Definitely there was a tornado in progress,” Allan said. “Right now it looks like the storm is becoming more linear, which means not rotating quite so much as it was.”
The alert states a rotating severe thunderstorm is moving 20 km east-northeast of Edson, moving northeast at 25 km/h.
This dangerous storm is likely producing very large hail, and may produce a tornado over the next 30 minutes.
Residents are being advised to take shelter immediately in a basement or reinforced structure if a tornado develops.
The tornado warning was downgraded to a severe thunderstorm warning at 10:14 p.m.
