Nanaimo RCMP looking for suspect who punched and robbed 14-year-old girl

Nanaimo RCMP are looking for a man who punched a 14-year-old girl in the face and then stole her iphone.

The incident took place on July 24, near the Beban Recreational Centre in Nanaimo, around 5:20 p.m.

The girl told police she was sitting at the tables outside the entrance to the centre pool when the man approached her.

He then grabbed her phone and punched her while she tried to stop him.

A witness saw this and chased after the suspect but was unable to stop him.

Police say the girl did not need medical attention but sustained some facial bruising and a cut to her knee.

The suspect was last seen riding a bike towards the barns located on the east side of the centre.

“Investigators have found no connection with between the suspect and victim and are asking the public to assist in furthering this investigation,” said Constable Gary O’Brien in a statement released by police.

The suspect is described as a white male, between 5’8″ and 5’10”, and in his late teens to early twenties.

He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, shorts and a blue napsack.

Police say he may be riding a small black bike – possibly a stunt bike.

The phone stolen was an iPhone 5 with a purple case.
