Canadians are known for donning red and white to celebrate Canada Day, but one Lethbridge couple has taken that tradition even further this year by draping their home with the patriotic colours to celebrate Canada’s 149th birthday.

“People go, ‘that’s your home with the flags?'” Carrie Kerber says. “ And we say, ‘yep, that’s our house with the flags.'”

You can’t miss Jonn and Carrie Kerber’s home. It is covered in Canadian flags.

“On Halloween, they had the best house I’ve ever seen and now they have the best house for Canada Day,” Dennis Carlson, a neighbour, said.

“We’re proud to live in this great country, to be Canadian and to be a part of Canadian culture,” Carrie said.

The Kerbers have lived in their Lethbridge home for over 20 years and with each Canada Day, they collect more flags.

The cost of the multitude of flags, bows and pin wheels may add up, but for this couple, promoting Canada Day is well worth the expense.

“We get people to smile and to wave and honk – that’s the best part of it,” Carrie said.

Carrie credits her husband Jonn as being the mastermind behind the decorations. In fact, he’s so dedicated that he spent most of Thursday preparing for his Canada Day celebrations.

For Carrie, the sight never gets old.

“I still like looking at it,” she said. “I can’t get over what he’s done, it’s amazing.”

The decorations will stay up throughout the weekend and then the couple won’t wast any time to begin planning for next year’s extraordinary event to mark Canada’s 150th birthday.
