People forced to flee wildfires raging near their homes in central Manitoba had to leave so quick, in some cases pets were left behind.

The police service posted pictures to its Twitter account Monday of officers feeding dogs.

Chemawawin and Easterville First Nation were evacuated last week because of a growing wildfire. Around 2,000 people were forced from their homes.

On Sunday the province said the fire was no longer a threat to structures in the area.
