A 25-year-old man is in custody following a police incident in the 3000-block of Lougheed Highway in Coquitlam this morning.
According to police, they responded to reports of an explosive device at a RainCity Housing building in the 3000-block of Gordon Avenue in Coquitlam.
As a precaution, police evacuated the homeless shelter and neighbouring businesses and asked motorists and pedestrians to stay clear of the area. It was alleged that the suspect had been at the probation office earlier in the morning. In an effort to avoid any potential risks, police also evacuated the Port Coquitlam Court House and probation office.
The explosives disposal unit and dog services section investigated the scene and found no explosive devices.
The evacuation was lifted just prior to noon and office workers were allowed back into their workplaces.
Police said the evacuation was strictly precautionary and the man was arrested and taken into custody shortly after the call came in at 8:45 a.m. this morning.
No one has been injured or hurt in the incident.
