REGINA – On Saturday night Adam Wayne will walk into his third professional mixed martial arts (MMA) fight, but more importantly his first pro-main event.

“Man, I’d step into that ring if I had a broken leg,” the 21 year old said.

Wayne is very confident heading into his fight on May 28 at Saturday Night Fights (SNF) Round 11. However, he isn’t immune to nerves and had some apprehension in November, during SNF 10.

“I just… Jesse lost, one of my teammates. He was fighting before me, and the nerves really hit then and I just wanted a fast finish,” Wayne said.

A fast finish is exactly what he got, defeating Kolton Menzak by submission with a rear naked choke in three and a half minutes.

Wayne’s opponent had a very similar result in his last fight.

Jason Goodheart put away Dallyn Wirachowsky with a rear naked choke at Prestige FC 2: Queen City Coronation in March. The Brandon, MB based fighter pulled off the victory in just one minute and four seconds.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

At 29 years old, Goodheart has aspirations to compete in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), but knows time isn’t necessarily on his side.

“All my fights have been pretty easy, pretty quick,” he said.

“So there’s not a lot of miles on my body, so I think I can push it a little further than a lot of guys.”

The two 155 pound fighters aren’t letting the fact their fight is the main event get to their heads, and say they just have to wait a little longer to fight.

Win or lose, Wayne will be competing again shortly after this fight, as he shifts his focus from MMA to Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

“I’m actually going to world’s right after. Five hours after the fight I’ll be hopping on a plane, going to California,” he said.

Since he has a flight to catch, Wayne doesn’t plan on getting paid by the minute once he steps in the ring.

“Another quick finish is in store. I’ll try not to keep these guys too long,” he laughed.

As for Goodheart, he has a large contingent of fans coming to the fight with him from Brandon including his wife. His goal is to ultimately make MMA the primary way he supports his family.

“The goal at the end of the day is to make it to the big show, and be a world champion,” Goodheart said.

“If that’s not your goal I don’t know why you’re in the sport.”
