SENNEVILLE – The Village of Senneville, on the tip of Montreal’s West Island, is the latest in a growing number of municipalities that is looking to build a new town hall.

Demolishing and rebuilding the structure would cost $2.5 million; with $700,000 coming from the town’s coffers.

The council, representing the over 900 residents, is planning to introduce a motion Tuesday night to borrow $1.8 million for the new building.

Mayor Jane Guest argued the existing town hall is decrepit, outdated and too small.

She said every year, money is being spent on repairs and maintenance and the time has come to start fresh.

Some residents say the town’s history is part of its charm, and insist they would prefer the town hall be renovated, rather than demolished and rebuilt.

A public registry for the loan will be held on June 1.
